The overall objective of the Project is to improve the natural drainage system and increase resilience against negative impacts of climate change. Thereto the River Chiveve was reopened and the drainage system was reinstalled and near naturally rehabilitated. The hydraulic performance was improved by the provision of large retention volume. Regulation is guaranteed by a tidal structure responding to storm surge and heavy rainfalls protecting the city center and informal settlement from inundations.
